Fitness Friday

January brings around everyone's resolution to get fit and healthier, and I was not an exception to this. Usually every year I say I'm going to get fitter and that I want to go to the gym. Every year I fail at this mainly due to that fact I'm too scared to go to a gym on my own and don't like running in the street, people can be so judgmental of your running technique.

So this year I decided to buy a running machine as argos had some great deals. For now it's sat in my living room, which doesn't bother me. But eventually we will sort the garage out and it will go in there, possibly with more stuff in the next January sale.

So this post is going to explain what my goals are with fitness and food. I set myself goals that I wanted to reach with my weight, fitness and diet, I made sure they were attainable so that I wasn't setting myself up to fail.

Goals
Weight: to loose just over half a stone before my holiday in April.

Fitness: to exercise 5 days out of the week and to tone up.

Diet: to stick to my calories, not go overly crazy at the weekend, eat more fruit and drink more water.

Weight
I  used to weigh just over 11 stone and with a height of 5ft 4 that put me overweight. It took me a while to loose the weight gradually just by cutting down on my food portions and swapping for more low calorie options, but I managed to loose 3 stone in a year and half. It took a lot of will power but I managed it! I did it slowly but I had more chance of keeping the weight off this way.

I've managed to gain half a stone over the past 6 months with holidays and Christmas and I'm ready to get my self fit and back on track with eating the right stuff. With just over 12 weeks to reach my goal of loosing over half a stone I have already lost 2 pounds and feel this goal is achievable.

Fitness
I'm extremely unfit and can't run to save my life. So to gently ease myself into exercise I have set myself attainable goals. This first month all I have set for myself is to do 20 minutes on the treadmill Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. This is to try and get myself into a routine and if I can mange this for a month then I will be able to start working out longer and adding more to my work out.

So far I have managed to stick to this routine, I'm not gonna lie some days are a real struggle, but I get on the machine and do it and feel better afterwards. Every week I'm trying to slowly increase the distance that I have ran in 20 minutes, to ensure that I'm pushing myself to work harder each week. Next month I would like to aim for 25 minutes on the treadmill and to add some toning exercises after two of the five work outs.

Diet
As far as my diet, I try to stick to 1200 calories a day, no less as this is not good for your body. At the weekend I do have a treat, you can't eat healthy all the time otherwise if your like me you will get too many cravings for those fatty foods and end up caving and falling off your healthy eating plan. So I try to stick to around 1500 calories at the weekend as this is the amount of calories I would need to maintain my weight. To help me keep track of my calories I use an app called my fitness pal.

This is no different for me as I have been eating like this for years now and it's always worked for me. The only goal that has alway been hard for me is eating more fruit and drinking more water. However this month I have had at least 1 piece of fruit in the weekdays which considering I didtnt eat any, it's a real start for me. I've managed so far to drink more water than normal as I'm refilling my water bottle when I get home from work but I do have a long way to go to reach 2 litres a day.

What have been your goals?
