I thought it was time to share with my favourite products from 2017. Some of these were new discoveries in 2017 and some are old favourites that I've just been reaching for time and time again throughout the year.
First up I'm going to start with skincare products. All the products that I'm about to show you are all new discoveries in 2017.
Lip Balm : Dr Paw paw
Serum : The Ordinary buffet and The Ordinary Hyaluronic acid
Face Mask: Sand & sky Brilliant skin
Throughout 2017 I mixed up my skincare routine quite a bit trying to find products that will get the best from my skin, but also trying to find products that wouldn't break the bank. The Ordinary skincare was super hyped up in 2017 and with good reason. I love both of these serums! I've seen such a difference in my skin, it looks brighter, its more hydrated and I've had very little breakouts. My skin just seems calmed and has more balance to it. I have combination skin and I think this is the first winter where I've not had a melt down with my skin, from being overly dry and flaky. I think the Hyaluronic acid is what I have to thank for that, as this helps your skin absorb more moisture.
In 2016 I fell in love with The organic pharmacy's lip balm and I do still love that, but its very expensive. I was so glad to discover a much cheaper product, that helped my lips as much as the organic pharmacy balm did. Every winter without fail my lips get very dry, they feel tight and end up cracking. The Dr Paw Paw balm rescued my lips before they got too bad and kept them looking great throughout the winter, allowing me to continue wearing all my favourite matte lip products.
The face mask just snuck into the 2017 favourites. I was in two minds whether to put this in or not as I only discovered this in December, but that was 2017 and I did love this product instantly! This is the first face mask I've used that says its pore minimising and you can actually see the difference after one use. I had a couple of hormonal spots and this mask shrank the size of them! This left my face brighter, smoother and pores were definitely minimised.
I haven't found a moisturiser that I love yet. Every time I use one up I change to another. I just haven't found that perfect moisturiser for my combination skin. To be quite honest I use moisturiser as its part of my routine, but I feel like I could easily get away with just using my serums, as they do way more than any moisturiser I've tried lately. If your combination skin and you've found one that you love.... let me know what it is below, so I can try it out.
If you want to know what else I use in my skin care routine then you can check my morning routine out here and my evening routine out here.
Now its time to move onto the beauty favourites. I've split this into two, face and then eyes, brows and lips.
Here's my favourite beauty products for the face....
Primer : Benefit Porefessional pro balm + Benefit Porefessional Matte rescue
Foundation : Urban Decay Naked Skin + L'oreal cushion
Concealer : Maybelline Fit me
Powder : Benefit Porefessional Pro powder
Blusher/Bronzer/Highlighter : Urban Decay Flushed Palette + Benefit Rockateur
Benefits Porefessional range is my all time favourite range from Benefit. I mean cant you tell by the three products that made it into my favourites. The porefessional pro balm and pro powder are long time favourites. The pro balm is an amazing primer that smooths out skin, hides pores and keeps foundation in place all day. The pro powder makes your skin look flawless and it keeps shine at bay all day long. The porefessional matte rescue however was a new discovery in 2017. Although I love the pro balm, I prefer to use this for special occasions and in the winter. In the summer I don't want to use heavy products on my face, but I still want my make-up to last all day long. Here enters the matte rescue balm. This feels refreshing on the skin, which is great in the summer. It doesn't hide pores but its does act as a great base for foundation, it keeps shine away and helps foundation stay put even in the heat.
The Urban Decay Naked skin foundation is an old favourite. I've really gotten back into this due to my skin being so much better this year. If I have any dry patches on my skin, this will instantly stick to those areas and show them all up. But like I said earlier, due to the new serums my skin has been much happier and I've been able to enjoy a old favourite. This foundation is my go to winter foundation, which does seem crazy when I cant use it if my skins dry. But I like a higher coverage foundation in the winter, to hide those dark circles and my pale face from the lack of sunlight. I also love using this one for special occasions too, as its a long wearing foundation. 2017 was the year of cushion foundations and I fell for the L'oreal one. I think I went through three of them! Definitely two, possibly three. This has become my go to spring/summer foundation. It still covers, but its breathable and just feels a lot more nicer on your skin in the heat. It also gives my skin a wonderful glow. Its not as long wearing as some of my foundations, but if you use the right primer, powder and setting spray it will hold through till the evening.
My concealer favourite is the same as the year before. Maybelline's fit me concealer is the best one I've found at the moment that's affordable. Its creamy, doesn't crease, covers well but also brightens at the same time. But its not overly brightening that you cant use it on other areas of your face too.
In 2017 I really tried to rediscover some of my old blushers, highlighters and bronzers. I've gone to having barely any of these products, to an over flowing collection. I ended up re-falling in love with the Urban Decay flushed palette. Its the perfect little palette, it has all three products (blush, highlight and bronzer) in a compact travel friendly case. The colours are also very beautiful. I also started using my Rockateur blusher more by Benefit in 2017. I've had this in my collection for a while now, but I only used it when I was going on a night out. I think this is because it has a subtle highlight to it. But I've found its been the perfect blusher to use throughout the winter, as it gives my cheeks a bit more of a glow.
My favourite eye, brow and lip products are....
Eye Primer : Urban Decay Primer Potion
Eye shadow : Jaclyn Hill Morphe Palette
Liner : Kat Von D Tattoo liner
Last Primer : Benefit They're Real Tinted Lash Primer
Mascara : Too Faced Better than Sex
Brows : Benefit Kabrow
Lipstick : Benefit They're Real Double the Lip (lusty Rose) + Urban Decay Creamy Lipstick (Lair)
Urban Decays eye shadow primer always will be my favourite primer. No other eye shadow primer has ever come close to this. I know you shouldn't go to sleep with make-up on, but sometimes you just fall asleep without meaning to. Especially if you've had a few too many drinks!! I fell asleep with my full make-up on and I woke up the next morning to eye make-up that was still perfect, the wing was perfect too. I could have gone out without re-doing my eyes! Basically it keeps eyeshadow in place, that eyeshadow isn't going to budge until you remove it.
Jaclyn Hill's collaboration with Morphe, was a palette I didn't think I needed. Until I was shown the beautiful colours and how amazing they looked on a friend! It's got to be one of the best eyeshadow palettes I've brought. I love all the colours and I can easily do so many looks with this one palette. Its a sleek palette that looks like it will travel well. The colours are very pigmented and blend beautifully. This was a new find in 2017 and will be one that I'll continue using daily in 2018.
Kat Von D tattoo liner is a fantastic liner that's super black, long lasting, doesn't smudge and is easy to apply with its flexible nib. Not only does it do all that, but it also lasts ages. I've had liners that dry up in a few months. I've used this nearly every day and it lasted a good 6+ months. I've tried many black liners and for now, nothing comes close to this one.
Lash primers are important to me. I found out how important they where the hard way! Due to wearing mascara nearly everyday, my lashes got really dried out and must have been snapping, as they were so short! Since using lash primers, my lashes have gotten back to the length they once were, they don't fall out as much and they feel much softer. I really like this lash primer due to it being a mink brown shade. Most lash primers are white, so you cant just apply them and run out the door. This Benefit one gives you the option to just apply this and not have to worry about mascara. I find I need mascara to open my eyes and make them appear bigger, as my eyes are quite small and can look lost if their not defined by the lashes. Its just a great product to have, to keep lashes looking great and its also great for those no make-up, make-up days.
The name of the mascara is a slight over exaggeration! But this is by far my fave mascara and I've tried a lot of mascaras. This gives volume, curve, length and definition to my lashes. Basically it does everything you want a mascara to do. It doesn't flake and it doesn't irritate my eyes.
Benefit Kabrow is another 2016 favourite that made it to 2017. Benefit had a mass brow product launch in 2016 and I think they really nailed the brow products. Most the brow products I own and definitely all the ones I love are from Benefit. The Kabrow, brow gel is my all time fave though. It looks very natural and its long lasting.
Its funny how I absolutely love a matte lip, yet both my favourite lip products aren't matte. These two lip product have been on my lips the most throughout 2017. The urban decay lipstick in the shade liar is the perfect nude shade that can be worn all year round. Its creamy but long lasting. Benefits double the lip in the shade lusty rose (dark dusky pink) was a new product find for me in 2017. It came in one of my beauty boxes and I didn't stop wearing it all summer long. What I love about this, is the built in liner aspect to the lipstick. It allows for precise application to your lips. There is many other shades but the liner part seemed to stand out a lot more on the others, than this one did.
That's it for my favourites of 2017! I cant wait to discover new products in 2018 and see what, if any will become my new all time favourites.
