Blogmas day 12 - Christmas baking

We're halfway were Blogmas so I thought it was time to do some christmas baking.

I absolutely love gingerbread, so I'm going to make some gingerbread people and reindeers.

For the recipe I used you will need:

340g plain flour

112g softened butter

100g soft brown sugar

190g golden syrup

2tsp ground ginger

1tsp bicarbonate soda

You will also need cutters and anything you wish to decorate them, I've got chocolate chips, icing and a male and female cutter.

  1.  Pre heat oven to 190 degrees
  2. Mix the butter and sugar together until it's a creamy consistency.
  3. Then add the golden syrup and sift in the flour, bicarbonate and ginger.
  4. Mix this together until it starts to form a dough, then bring it all together with your hands.
  5. Once in a dough form, put in the fridge for 10 minutes ( I used this time to clear away my pots and set up my baking trays with baking paper on them.
  6.  When the 10 mins are up, roll your gingerbread dough out and use your shape cutters and put them onto the baking trays.
  7. They then need 8-10 mins in the oven, once cooked let them cool slightly before transferring them to a cooling rack.

Let them cool completely before the fun part of decorating the freshly baked ginger goodness.

While I was waiting for them to bake and cool I also made this gingerbread house kit that I got from the Asda for £4. A couple of years ago I tried to make my own but it didn't go too well as I took it out the oven a bit too early, so it was too soft and didn't stay together. I like my gingerbread a little soft but didn't take into account that a house needs to be sturdy so it needed baking longer. So this year to avoid disappointment I thought I would just buy a kit and have fun decorating it.

This is what it turned out like, everything I've used came in the box and I'm really happy with how it looks.

What your favourite thing to bake for Christmas?
