Blogmas Day 23 - Christmas Eve

I get just as excited for Christmas Eve, as I do for Christmas day. When I lived at home, Christmas eve was a day that I spent with my Mum and Sister. While my Mum cleaned the house, we had to clean our rooms. After we were all clean, the fun could then begin. We would make sausage rolls, play board games, watch a Christmas movie, feast on nibbles and enjoy cosy new pj's.

Since I moved out and started working in retail, I'm lucky if I get half the day off from work, never mind the full day. This year Christmas eve has fallen on my weekend off, from work. So I've actually got the whole day off this year. Which is amazing!! Since moving out, I have picked up a few of my Mums habits and have kept a few traditions on.

So here's what I'm going to be doing on my Christmas eve, and what most of my Christmas eves look like.

Cleaning
A couple of habits that I've picked up from my mum, is deep cleaning the house and changing all the bedding. It's a very good habit to pick up I think. A perfectly clean house is always essential around this time of the year, as you have so many visitors popping in and out.
There is also nothing quite like getting into a bed that's got fresh bedding on. It always seems to be the best night sleep I have, when the bedding has been freshly changed. Getting a good night sleep on Christmas eve can always be difficult, as there is so much running through your mind. With everything you've got to do.

Baking
Me and my Mum always used to make sausage rolls, together on Christmas eve. I've kept the tradition on, even though I'm now doing it on my own. Eating them not long after they've come out the oven is still the best. Freshly baked sausage rolls, is something Paul looks forward to coming home to.
I also bake or make the dessert for Christmas day. I'm usually the one that brings dessert for the big meal, so I like to get it prepared the day before. If I get time, I also like to bake some gingerbread men too. Gingerbread is always the best thing to bake on Christmas eve, as the smell of them just fills your house. Much better than an air-freshener.

Bath Time
I'm not saying I only have a bath on Christmas eve, I'm just usually a shower person. But on Christmas eve, I enjoy having a long soak in the bath. To relax after all that cleaning and baking. I always use a lush bath bomb. Usually I get the giant present bath bomb, called golden wonder. But I had an snow angel left over from last year. It's a bath melt, which will give my bath a white foam and golden shimmer. It should leave my skin moisturised and soft.

Pampering
I always have a massive pamper sesh on Christmas eve. I guess its because I want to look my best on Christmas day. I say I have a massive pamper sesh, but its really only a face mask and painting my nails. I suppose it feels like I do more, because I chill in the bath with a luxury bath bomb for so long.
I saved a couple of face masks from my beauty boxes, to use on the eve. I saved the 111skin, gold brighting facial treatment sheet mask. The other one I saved is an eye mask by starskin. Its called the eye catcher. These mask should both help to add the moisture back into my skin, brighten and rejuvenate.
The nail polish I'm going to use, is one I got in my Glossybox this month. Its by Revlon and its called valentine. It looks like the prefect Christmas red. I always paint my nails red for Christmas day.

Food
I've usually done all my cleaning, baking and pampering, before Paul comes home from work. Once he's home, the fun can start. It starts with feasting on food. I always do a mini buffet for me and Paul. We have lots of cheese, pate, dip, sausage rolls, bread and of course chocolate. My mum always used to do a little buffet spread, its just nice to graze on throughout the night. Its also the first proper night, were cheat food starts.

Movie
While were grazing on the food, we always like to watch a Christmas movie. A Christmas movie, just has to be done on Christmas eve, doesn't it. I don't have a particular film that we have to watch, any Christmas film will do.

Board game
Me and my family always played board games, on Christmas eve. Monopoly, Scrabble, Cluedo and Payday. These are just some of the games we used to play. For this year, we have bought the game of life. I used to play this at my friends when I was younger and loved it. But it was never a board game that we owned. So we decided to treat ourselves to a new board game this year, and when I saw this one in the shops. I just had to get it.

Hot Chocolate
Our evening always and I mean always has to end on a hot chocolate. Its the best drink to make you feel all cosy and send you off to sleep. I kept these stir into hot milk, hot chocolate spoons. From our date night box. I though they would be perfect and like a proper hot chocolate.

Pj's
This seems to be a tradition for quite a lot of people. Me and my sister always used to get, to open one present on Christmas Eve. Which were always new pyjama's. To me now, its not Christmas without some new pj's. So this is another tradition I've kept on, that my mum used to do. Every year I'll buy myself and Paul new Pj's. I did used to wrap them up, but now I just leave them on the bed, so there ready for us. Every year I get them from the same place, Primark. They do some great festive P'js, for some great prices.

Do you have any Christmas eve traditions?
