You may remember at the beginning of November, I purchased and reviewed some of Primark's beauty products. Well I thought I would do the same thing with New Look. Especially, as they have just relaunched there beauty line. I didn't buy as many products as I did from Primark, purely because Primark's beauty line is very and I mean very cheap. If you haven't already read my review Primark's beauty products, then why not check it out now here.
I was spoilt for choice when I popped into my New Look store, I just didn't know what to buy. There was so much stuff that I wanted to try out. The way the beauty section is set out in store, is so much better now too. Rather than it being on an end, shoved by the checkouts. It now stands out, in beauty stands that are lit up. I ended up picking out three products to try, a foundation, eyeshadow palette and lipstick crayon.
The foundation I picked up is their, flawless liquid foundation. I picked up the shade porcelain, which is the lightest shade they had, it was bit too light for me to be honest. This foundation only comes in three shades though, the next shade up was too dark for me. It only cost £4.99, so at this price I could have purchased the next shade and mixed them both together, to get the shade I needed. But I didn't see the point when I was only buying the product to try out first. The foundation is described as being medium coverage, it should conceal imperfections and even out skin tone, whilst give you a natural and flawless finish. This foundation does also provide some protection, with SPF 15.
Firstly the packaging for this is very simple but looks sleek with the colour choice of black and silver. Its a toothpaste type, squeezy plastic tube, with a twist off cap. The foundation itself has a pleasant, almond scent and has a thick consistency to it. It almost feels like a face primer and foundation in one. It blends in quite well, but does feel quite tacky on the skin until dry or powdered. As I said it is a thick foundation, so it is a medium to high coverage. Wear time wasn't too bad, I would say this lasted around 5hours on my face. Personally, I didn't like this foundation. I found it too thick and I didn't like the tacky primer feeling it left on my face. It does cover well, but it didn't leave me with that natural looking flawless skin, that it promised. I felt like it just sat on my skin, in a layer. Once it had been on for around 4 or 5 hours, it started to clump in the areas that can get quite oily. Which isn't a great look. For £4.99 I don't think it was bad, but its definitely not a foundation for me. I like longer wearing, natural looking foundation that allows my skin to breathe a bit more.
They have three, quad eyeshadow palettes available to buy, dark nudes, neutral nudes and smokey purple. I picked up the smoke palette. I know you cant go wrong with a neutral palettes, but I loved the purple shades in this smoke palette. Colours strangely, that I don't seem to own. Just like the foundation, this palette costs £4.99, that's pretty amazing for four eye shadows.
The black plastic case with the white writing, is sleek looking and you wouldn't know how cheap it was. On the inside however, you can see some of the glue on the packaging, were they have stuck the eye shadows in. This does cheapen the look of the packaging slightly. In this palette you get two light and two dark shades, so that you can create that perfect smokey look. I was so surprised at how pigmented and and silky soft these eye shadows are. These are similar in texture to urban decay eye shadows. The shadows are soft, silky, pigmented, easy to blend and long lashing. Everything you could want from an eyeshadow palette, what sets this apart from a lot of the other eye shadow palettes, is the amazing £4.99 price tag. I really liked this palette and would definitely recommend you check these out.
Lastly I picked out the matte velvet lipstick crayon. They had eight shades available to choose from, I chose the shade Morocco. I would describe this shade as a brown red. Like the other two products I chose, this is also priced at £4.99. I
think this is a bit pricey for a lip product, especially considering the
foundation and eye palette are the same price. The twist up lipsticks
are priced at £3.99, which I think would be the ideal price for the lip
crayons too.
I love the packaging on these lip crayons. They are rose gold in colour and have a metallic look to them. The end of the lip crayon is the shade of the crayon, I like when they do this, it makes it easier to find the colour your looking for. These lip crayons are infused with vitamin E, so that lips are kept moisturised and nourished. They have a sweet smell to them, which I think smells a bit like toffee popcorn. The lip crayon glides on so smoothly, leaves your lips looking matte. However, it still leaves that velvety soft feeling on your lips, rather than a dry chapped feeling, that you can get sometimes from matte lip products. This is one of the better lip crayons I've tried and I would buy other shades of these. I just think they would be, even better with the price tag of £3.99 rather than £4.99.
To like two out of the three products I chose to try, I think is pretty good going. I would definitely try a few more products from New Look beauty, now I've tried these three out. I'm not going to lie, I probably will stay clear of the foundations, after trying the flawless foundation and finding I didn't like it at all. But there are plenty of other products to try like, primers, colour correctors, concealer, mascara's, liners and brow products. New Look haven't just re-launched there beauty line though, they have also expanded and brought out perfumes, body products, skin care and hair care products.
Have you tried out New Look's beauty line yet?
