Cleaning your makeup brushes is very important, it needs to be done regularly so that bacteria is not harbouring in your brushes and getting brushed all over your face, which can cause spots.
There are a few differnt things you can use and different ways to clean your brushes. This is the what I use and the way I do it.
For a quick cleanse of your brushes, like your eye/concealer brushes. I use the mac brush cleaner so that when using different coloured eyeshadows they are the true colour and not a colour that's been mixed with a colour I used yesterday. Also if I have used my concealer brush on a spot I like to do a quick cleanse to ensure that no bacteria is on the brush. I use the mac cleaner in a smaller spray bottle (which I think I got from superdrug a while back) so it's more easy to travel with and easier to use on your brushes.
I spray the makeup brush I want to clean and then working backwards and forwards I wipe it into a clean towel until there is no longer any makeup coming out of the brush, then I leave it to dry.
For a much deeper clean i like to use Johnson's baby shampoo, as it's gentle on the brushes but cleans them effectively and it's not too expensive. I like to clean my brushes every couple of weeks. If I feel there is a build up of makeup on a brush in particular or I've been a bit lazy and missed cleaning my brushes for a real deep clean I use a bit of olive oil on the brush first, then follow it up with the Johnson shampoo. This breaks down the makeup brilliantly and leaves the brush feeling soft. You just have to make sure that you thoroughly wash your brushes to get all the oil out.
To clean the brushes I pour a little of the shampoo onto the brush and swirl it around gently in the palm of my hand I then run it through the water and gently squeeze the brush to squeeze all the makeup and water out the brush until the water out the brush runs clear.
After I have finished I always reshape my brushes and place them on a clean towel to dry, I do like to fold the towel up under the handles so that the bristel end is sloped down. I feel that my brushes dry quicker and nicer this way. Once they are dry I gently swirl the brush in the clean palm of my hand to fluff the bristles back to normal.
