Clothing/Makeup declutter and organisation

I told you in my primark haul that I had been clearing through my things, clothing and makeup. This process took me nearly two weeks as I wanted to do it in sections so I didn't get overwhelmed. I wasn't just going through my belongings and throwing things out I also made sure I organised it better so that I would use and wear more of my things as I can see them better and know what I own.

I started with my clothing and sectioned it out into skirts one night, dresses another and so on. I tried every piece of clothing on that I owned so I could make a better decision of wether I loved it or not. I knew if I didn't like it on anymore , then I was never going to reach for it and it's just going to take space up in my wardrobe gathering dust. I ended up separating my clothes into 5 piles.

  1. Keep
  2. Trash
  3. Donate
  4. Unsure
  5. Doesn't fit, but keep as still like

All the items I kept I organised better in my wardrobe and draws so that I can see what I have more clearly. The clothes that don't fit me quite right at the moment but I still love, I took out of my wardrobe and packed away as I know I only need to loose a few pounds and they will fit perfect again. Clothing I was unsure about I decided to keep but mark the hanger to remind me to wear the item. If after a year I still haven't worn the items then I know it's time to get rid of them as I obviously don't like them enough if I'm picking other items over them all the time.

The items that I binned either had holes, rips or just generally looked over worn and not in good shape anymore. I binned 8 tops, 4 dresses, 4 jeans, 3 pairs of shoes, 1 belt, 1 cardigan and 2 bras. The rest of the clothing I got rid of that we're still like new I bagged them up in a charity collection bag. I donated 11 tops, 4 dresses, 6 pairs of jeans and 1 pair of shoes. In total I got rid of 19 tops, 8 dresses, 10 pairs of jeans, 4 pairs of shoes, 1 belt, 1 cardigan and 2 bras. I'm so proud of myself , i was ruthless and it worked. I can see so much more of what I have in my wardrobe.

Lastly I cleared out my makeup. This was hard for me but it was getting ridiculous with the items I was keeping that I didn't like and would never use, as I had something that worked better and that I liked better. I've gotten a lot of products over the last couple of years from my glossybox and birchbox that I either didn't like or had something better. I've also got gift sets with items in that I didn't really liked but it was cheaper to get the set.  So I decided  to go through every bit of makeup and anything that I knew I wasn't going to use I decided to get rid of.

I got rid of quite a bit, I got that into the project I forgot to photo the items I binned. So I've only got pictures of products that are still ok to be given away. My niece has just gotten into makeup so I thought it would be nice to give them to her.

I got rid of 3 nail polishes, 2 lip products, 2 highlighters, 3 blusher/bronzer/highlighters and 5 eyeliners. I found  the nail polishes were too  gimmicky or I didn't like the shade  of them anymore. The lip products aren't really me as I think there a little too young for me and not something I will reach for. I have a lot of bronzers, blushers and highlighters these are either samples that are going to get lost in my collection or I have much better products that I like more and know these will end up just sat there not getting used. I prefer liquid eyeliners and gel liners to eye pencils unless there really creamy, and these just aren't the creamy liners that I like. My niece will be so excited and happy to have some makeup to play around with, so I I don’t feel bad about getting rid of these.

When I was clearing through my makeup I hated the fact that I have all these beautiful eye palettes and don't use them all. Ive been stuck in a rut with how I'm applying my makeup. The only palette I seem to use is the urban decay naked 3. So I have decided each month to pick two palettes to use so I will end up getting to use all the palettes I own throughout the year and get to change my look up more. I also found that I wasn't using my lip products, as I couldn't see what I owned. I bought this lipstick holder off ebay for £1.88 it holds 24 lip products and it allows me to displays my products in a tidy way . I love how this storage solution allows me to  see what I own easily and grab a lip product quickly. This doesn't hold all my lip products but I'm going to switch the products around by they season that I would use them.

I hope this has inspired you to clear through your belongings. I'm so happy I did this, it also means I have more room for new things.

What's are your organising/storage tips for makeup and clothes?
