Rimmel vs Urban Decay

Urban decay is my absolute favourite brand, I fell in love with them in my late teens after purchasing the ammo palette. It was the first high end beauty product that I bought and it started my addiction with the brand. One of my favourite products is their flushed palette, which is a bronzer, highlighter and blush all in one little set. Flushed comes in four shades, naked, native, strip and streak. I have the one called strip. Just like their eye shadows the bronzer, highlighter and blush are buttery soft and highly pigmented. The bronzer is a golden brown, the highlighter is a pink champagne and the blusher is dusty mauve.

Rimmel is one of my favourite lower end brands. I can always count on Rimmel for great foundations, mascaras and nail varnishes. One of their new products caught my eye, its their sculpting palette. This is also a bronzer, highlighter and blush set. These come in two colours, coral glow and golden bronze. I went for the coral glow, as it looked like it would match my skin tone better and it would be perfect for the summer. The bronzer and blusher are very pigmented, but the highlighter isn't as pigmented as urban decays. The highlighter is a subtle golden glow, the bronzer is a darker golden brown and the blusher is a coral colour.

I thought these were extremely similar products, obviously they are not the same colours. Even if they had a Rimmel sculpting palette that was a similar colour to my flushed palette, I still would have gone for a different colour, as I don't see the point in owning palettes that are the same colour. I'm going to compare both of the products, their packaging and the price.

Packaging
Urban decay's packaging does look high end, which matches the brand. It's very sleek but also looks durable. It's been on many holidays and weekends away and has managed to keep the product safe from breaking. The case is magnetic and their is a large mirror inside.

Rimmel's packaging is pretty, but it definitely doesn't look high end. The base of the packaging isn't bad, it seems quite sturdy. The lid however lets it down, as it's seems a very cheap, flimsy plastic. However, I do like that you can see the product through the lid, so you know exactly what colours you have available without opening it up. I like the gold trim around the lid, I think it takes away some of the cheapness of the lid. The clasp also seems quite flimsy, I wouldn't be surprised if it eventually breaks. One thing this palette has over urban decay's, is that there is a handy guide on the back. This guide shows you how and where to use the colours, to get that sculpted look.

On the packaging Urban decay definitely wins, it looks much more sleeker and lot more durable than Rimmels.

Product
Urban decay's product is buttery soft and very pigmented. You only need to dab your brush in the blusher and it has plenty of colour on it. These blend really well and are long lasting. I like that you get more of the product, that you would use more of. So the bronzer is the biggest, followed by the blusher and the smallest is the highlighter. I don't like that the bronzer, highlighter and blusher are not separated. I'm worried that when I hit the pan on one of the colours, it may cause the rest to break away. Resulting in a product that I cant really use any more, unless I swirl the colours together.

Rimmel's sculpting palette is not as buttery soft as urban decay's, It has a slight chalky feel to it. However, they blend just as well. The bronzer and blusher are very pigmented, not as much as urban decay's but pretty close. The highlighter however has no way near enough pigment in it. It just means that you can build the colour up to your desired look. Like urban decay's it does look like you get slightly more bronzer than the rest. The highlighter and blusher look to be the same size. I do like that these are separated, I know if I hit pan on one of the colours, I will still be able to use the others.

Urban decay just wins ever so slightly this time. That was down to Rimmel's not being as buttery soft as urban decays. Otherwise I would say there pretty close to each other as they are both really pigmented, both blend well and are both long wearing.
Price
Urban decay's is priced at £23.50 and you get 14g of product.

Rimmel's is priced at £6.99 and you get 18.5g of product.

You get a massive amount of product for the price with Rimmel, which is amazing! So obviously price per gram Rimmel wins hands down.

Overall I do really like Rimmel's sculpting palette, I think its a brilliant much cheaper version of urban decay's flushed palette. I've found it so hard trying to decide which palette I like better, I love them both. This was such a hard decision for me to make, but I think urban decay slightly edges Rimmel on this one. That is really down to the quality of the highlighter, I had to apply three layers so you could see the swatch on my arm. If Rimmel up their game on the quality of the highlighter then Rimmel would become the new winner for me. If your cant afford to spend the money on urban decay then check out Rimmel's sculpting palette. It really is a great product and a brilliant dupe of the flushed palette.

Let me know which product wins for you, is it urban decay or Rimmel?

Also let me know if there are any other cheaper products that you think are dupes of higher end ones.
