Hair removal is probably the bane of most women's life and something not everyone talks about. I hate how time consuming and expensive it can be. There are so many different ways of hair removal, there's shaving, depilatory creams, waxing, epilation and laser.
Shaving
Probably one of the cheapest and quickest hair removal methods there is. I've used razors for many years on my lower leg and underarms. It's just quick, pain free and cheap. The problem with this method though is that you can nick your skin quite easily and the hair just seems to grow back so quick. In the summer I could be shaving my legs every other day if I wanted to wear dresses. It removes a thin layer of skin every time you shave so it can irritate some peoples skin. This can also fade your holiday tan quite quickly too.
I'm trying to move away from shaving as I've found although its cheap and quick. Its not long lasting and my underarms get quite irritated from having to shave so much in the summer.
Depilatory cream
Hair removal creams are just as pain free as razors. There not as quick as razors but it still only takes about 10-15 minutes which isn't that long. Hair removal creams haven't had the best press over the years, due to the pungent smell of the cream. But over the years this seems to have been developed and they don't smell quite as bad now. They even have hair removal creams for sensitive skin. Price wise its probably only slightly more expensive than razors as the results lasts much longer. The cream gets applied directly onto the hair, so the cream gets quite close to the root of the hair meaning the results of smooth legs last much longer than a razor.
I used to use this when I was a bit younger and was a bit too scared of trying waxing out. I soon gave up on this as I was always worried that I would leave it on too long, which can cause irritation to your skin. I was also, always worried that I would somehow manage to get it on my head and a big chunk of hair would fall out. The cream is very messy and although it's only a 10-15 minute wait. It feels like forever when your just stood there trying not to get the cream anywhere else.
Waxing
Of course having your hair ripped from its roots can be painful and you may need breaks between each leg if your doing it from home. The benefits of waxing are worth the pain though. If done correctly and the hair is pulled out by the root, you can be left hair free for up to a month. Also over time hair can be reduced by waxing and is left much thinner. The regrowth isn't overly irritating but your do run the risk of getting a few ingrown hairs. Waxing is very messy though and very time consuming. Most of us do it from home to save money, but if we actually went to a salon we would probably find that the results last longer. As they are trained with the correct technique and were not left with the messy wax clear up. Yes it can get expensive but if you add up all the razor's or creams you would have bought in that month then you will probably find its not that much more expensive.
I've always waxed my upper leg and bikini line after moving away from the creams. My legs would only be hair free for a week and half to two weeks at most. If I'd have gone to a salon maybe I would've gotten four weeks of hair free legs. I could never do the bottom half of my leg, it was just far too painful for me to do. My friend however did manage it and her legs were so smooth and I was so jealous of her super smooth legs.
Epilation
I never in a million years wanted to go anywhere near an epilator. Pulling one brow out with my tweezers can make my eyes water, so I didn't think much to lots of tiny tweezers pulling hairs out of my legs. That just made me cringe and say hell no! These are also ridiculously expensive and I couldn't justify buying one if I was unsure i would like it. Well I ended up finding a really good Braun one on allbeauty.com that was only £35. It had really great reviews and came with a face exfoliation brush. I thought i would try it out and if worse came to worse I'd got a cool face exfoliation brush out of it.
OMG why did I not try this sooner! Yes its painful, I'm not going to lie. The top half of my leg wasn't really painful because I was used to waxing and the hairs were fine, so that part was a doddle. The lower part of my leg hurt, especially around the ankles. But weirdly as my mum had been telling me for years. If you stick with it, your leg kind of goes numb after a while and it doesn't really bother you. After a while you just feel the pulling but not the pain. Now my hairs are much thinner on my lower legs, so I don't feel any pain when I epilate there, it was just that first time. I will never shave my legs again as the results were worth the initial pain. For me this lasts longer than waxing, its so quick, its not messy and its portable. My legs were irritated the first time the hair regrew and you do get a lot more ingrown hairs from this than waxing,
I'm trying to pluck up the courage to do my under arms. I know its going to be painful, but I know the results will be worth it and I will never have to buy another razor again!
Laser
I haven't tried this hair removal method, so I'm not going to talk about this mehtod really. I've heard it can have some great results, but it can be extremely expensive. If i had the money I would 100% try it out. Have any of you tried this method out? What did you think?
From what I've tried for me epilation has been the best hair removal method, having the best results and being really easy to do. What do you find is the best hair removal method for you?
