Beauty Flight Essentials

Whether I'm flying long or short haul, I always like to arrive at my destination fresh faced. I don't want to waist time in my hotel room freshening up, when I could be exploring. There are always a few beauty steps that I like to take, to ensure I look as fresh faced as I can.

The first step begins before I get to the airport, when my face is all clean. I like to apply an overnight face mask. Yes it may be 9am in the morning or 5pm in the afternoon, but the beauty of these masks is that you can apply them any time. An overnight face mask is like an extremely rich moisturiser, that's going to keep your face hydrated. That's something you need on the plane, as the air conditioning sucks all that moisture out of your skin. The face mask I use is this one by Nuxe, its the Creme fraiche 24hr moisturising mask. This mask is soothing and rehydrating, it relaxes and de-thirsts your skin.

The lips are just as important as the face, they need to be kept hydrated too. You don't want dry cracked lips when you land. The lip balm I use is Lanolips lemonaid lip treatment. This hydrates, nourishes and refreshes your lips. It also has a slight shimmer to it, so it will look good on your lips any time of the day. Any lip balm will do though, as long as its super hydrating. These few things I do are the only pre-flight steps I take. I don't feel like I need to go crazy with make-up, it's all about nourishing the skin and keeping it hydrated for the flight.

On board I take a few more steps, but this is towards the end of the flight. About 10 minutes before I know the plane is going to start its landing process. I like to cleanse my face with a face wipe, to refresh my face and just make myself feel a bit cleaner. I like to use simple face wipes or these Garnier ones. Then I will apply just a little more of the overnight face mask. Not too much, just a little to ensure my skin is hydrated after I've cleansed.

Once my skin is prepped I like to apply a bit of make-up, so that I look less tired and more like myself, especially if it was a long flight. I don't bring foundation on the plane, I just use a bit of concealer under my eyes and to cover any redness. The concealer I use in Maybelline's fit me, I have this in shade 10. This concealer is very creamy and blends really well, with either a beauty blender or even your finger. I will a face powder to set the concealer in place and make my skin look a little bit more flawless. The one I'm using is Maybellines 24hr waterproof powder, in the shade nude. I like this as it gives a flawless finish and also adds a touch of colour, like a foundation would.

To awaken my skin and not feel so washed out, I do bring a bronzer on board with me. I'm using Benefit's hoola, this soft bronzing powder gives that subtle sun tan glow. I will also dust a little of this onto my eyelids, to give them a bit of definition. I don't bother with blusher, as all I want is a quick put together look. But by all means you can always use a blusher, if that makes you feel more like yourself.

I personally don't feel put together unless my brows are tamed and defined. For me I like to use a brow gel, because its quick and easy to use on the go. I like Benefit's gimme brow. The brush is small, so less chance for mistakes and it really adds some wow to your brows.

The last item in my little aeroplane beauty bag is my benefit roller lash mascara. I have quite small eyes, so I need mascara to make my eyes look more open and awake. This roller lash one is great at curling and lifting your lashes, so your eyes look even wider and more awake. I also like using it for the plane, as I have it in a sample size. Samples sizes are always great to keep on hand for travelling and planes.

If you feel uncomfortable doing this on the plane or find you lost track of time. Once your through security and at the baggage claim area, you can always nip to the ladies and do your routine there. The bags are always so slow, you will have plenty of time to make yourself feel more fresh and normal then.

One last huge tip I would give for any flight, is to make sure you drink plenty of water. The air conditioning and plane food really dehydrates you. If your dehydrated, then so is your skin. Keep yourself hydrated and your skin will certainly thank you for it later.

I hope I've given you some ideas on how to keep your skin looking great post flight. Let me know any of your pre-flight and on board tips you have in the comments below. I love hearing other peoples tips.
