Before I met Paul I hadn't travelled to many places. I'm not saying that I was deprived of holidays as a child. I find it quite amazing how my mum managed to afford to take me and my sister on holiday, as a single parent on a low income. We went to the usual places that most family's in the UK travel to; Spain, Portugal, Canary Islands and of course caravan holidays to Cornwall.
I was only 19, turning 20 when I met Paul. I hadn't really had the chance to do any travelling with anyone other than my family. But Paul was a few years ahead of me and had travelled to lots of places already with friends. He had the travel bug, big time. Upon meeting him and going away on our first few holidays, it didn't take long for me to catch the travel bug too.
I thought I would share with you all the amazing places that me and Paul have been lucky enough to travel to and what they were like. For me to do that I need to take you back to 2010, to our first holiday.
Corfu - Greece
2010
This was our first holiday and for most couples this can be a defining point in their relationship. They say on your first holiday, you find out if you can actually live with this person. For the next seven to fourteen days, your in smaller accommodation that your used to and this is were you can really thrive as a couple or irritate the hell out of each other. You may be able to tell, that we didn't irritate each other and enjoyed each others company. Greece is one of those places that I could go back to every year. The locals are always so friendly and treat you like your part of their family. Greece is one of the more cheaper destinations, if your just in need of some relaxation.
New York
2011
My first long haul destination. Paul had already been here three times before taking me. We stayed with a friend of his, right in the centre of New York. We did all the usual touristy stuff such as; the empire state building, Brooklyn bridge, Rockefeller centre, and strolled through central park. Staying with Paul's friend was so good, because not only did we do the usual tourist stuff, but his friend took us to bars and restaurants that you would only know of, if you lived in New York. I will always remember this holiday, as this is where Paul proposed to me. So New York will always have a special place in my heart. New York is one of those places I think everyone should try and visit, if they get the chance. You only need around four days to find out why everyone loves New York so much.
Cyprus
2012
This was actually our Honeymoon. This is another one of those cheaper destinations like Greece, where you can go to just unwind and relax.
Fiskardo - Greece
2013
We were here for a very special occasion. Paul's dads wedding. This is a more up market part of Greece, its not as cheap as Corfu, but its beautiful and a perfect wedding location.
Florida
2013
We went to Florida for the obvious, the theme parks! No matter how old you are, I think everyone can enjoy Florida. Were all big kids at heart. We stayed here for fourteen days and did all the Disney parks, the two Universal parks and Sea world. I'm not a massive ride person, so you may wonder why I went all that way. I like rides, just not the big scary drop ones. Which luckily for me there wasn't too many of and luckily for Paul he got to get on really quick, in the single riders line. Universal was by far my favourite due to the 3D rides being amazing, Transformers and Spiderman especially. Of course Harry Potter world was amazing too. I literally ran to the back of the theme park to get on that ride first. Paul had never seen me move so fast! We also booked a dolphin swim in at discovery cove, which is still one of the top 5 things I've ever done.
Vegas
2015
We took a year off holidays as you can see, to become home owners. But we made up for it in 2015, by checking a place off each of our travel bucket lists. Paul had wanted to go to Vegas for such a long time. He even had it planned one year with his friends, but that was the year of the ash cloud which grounded flights. This wasn't a place on my bucket list and I wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. I'm not a big gambling person and that's the main thing to do in Vegas. The thought of a black jack table surrounded by people who knew what they were doing intimidated me and I thought the slot machines were going to be like UK fruit machines. But when I got there I absolutely loved it. The slot machines are so frigging easy, you basally just press a button. My favourite gambling pass time was the electronic black jack tables, they were newbie friendly and easy to use. Other than doing the obvious Vegas gambling we also walked through every different themed hotel, saw a cirque du soleil show and did a helicopter grand canyon tour. I had booked this for Paul's birthday and this was by far the best thing we've done. Paul had organised a surprise anniversary cake, so we got to eat anniversary cake while sipping on champagne and enjoying the amazing view inside the Grand Canyon. If you get a chance to visit Vegas, definitely do a helicopter tour.
Hawaii
2015
This was the tick off my bucket list. I'd always wanted to go to Hawaii, but never thought we'd actually get the chance. We did Vegas and Hawaii as a multi-trip holiday. It worked out perfectly, because Vegas was all go and Hawaii is just so chilled. It was the perfect way to relax and chill out, so we were refreshed on our return home. As soon as we landed in Hawaii we just felt utterly calm. The place is picturesque and everyone is so friendly. While we visited the Island of Maui we got to experience their local history, food and traditions. We saw lots of hula dancing and attended a luau, which is a traditional Hawaiian feast. If your looking for the ultimate relaxation, this is the place to be.
Paris
2016
Paris was another tick off my bucket list, as Paul had already been here. It was a surprise for my birthday, which I still cant believe he managed to pull off. I'm usually really good at figuring everything out, but he was very stealthy with this surprise. Even all my work friends were in on it, as he had to book the time off work for me. Paris is another beautiful place that should be visited. We did the usual tourist stuff and visited the Eiffel tower, Notre Dame and the Louvre, which I could have stayed in all day. We were only here for two days and managed to fit so much in. We did a hell of a lot of walking on the first day, to the point were we didn't have the energy to go out for an evening meal, but I thoroughly enjoyed every second.
San Francisco - LA - Chicago
2016
This was another multi-centre trip. I'm not going to say too much about these destinations as I did write posts on each of these places we visited and what we got up to each day we were there. So if you want to know more about these places then just click on the destination above. What I will say is that these were amazing places and we packed a lot of activities and sights into a short amount of time.
Kos - Greece
2016
A holiday that was greatly needed to just relax and unwind. We love our full on see the world holidays but this was needed to recover from the non stop American trip. It was a cheap last minute deal and it refreshed us just before the hectic Christmas period.
I would 100% recommend every place we've been to, we haven't had a bad experience at any of the places we've visited. That could be due to the amazing places we've been to or down to the thorough planning we do before we go.
I know I'm a lucky person to have been able to visit such amazing places already. Me and Paul work our backsides off and save hard, so we can tick as many places off our bucket list as possible. This year were ticking two more places off and will be visiting Singapore and Bali. I cant wait for our holiday to get here, be sure to look out for a travel post all about the destinations when we've been.
What's on your travel bucket list?
