At some point, I think all of us will adjust our make-up routine to whatever season were in at the time. Some will do it without realising, others will make drastic changes to there make-up routine. When the seasons start changing, my make-up routine automatically changes. It was only when I sat down to write this post, that I found out just how many of my products actually change.
Lets start with the products I've switched up for my base. In the summer, I'm all about keeping the shine at bay and using lighter products that allow my skin to breath. Because I have combination skin, in the colder months I need to ensure that oiliness is still kept at bay. But I also need to make sure that my skin is kept hydrated. The products I've changed on my base are my primer, foundation and concealer.
Primer
I don't seem to apply a primer too much in the summer, unless its for a special occasion. I guess that because I don't really want to add another layer of something to my face on a hot day. However once the colder months are upon us, it's a step I never seem to miss out. This might be because I use a more higher coverage foundation. I have a primer sample from Laura Mercier, it came in one of my birchbox's a few months back. This primer is a lightweight creamy gel, that acts as a buffer to outside elements. It's got vitamins A, C and E that help to protect the skin from harmful ageing effects of the environment. This primer is stated to be ideal for people with the skin type normal and combination. I find that this adds that extra bit of hydration to my face and helps to keep it locked into my skin.
Foundation
As I said, I seem to go for more of a higher coverage foundation. Basically I move away from BB creams. The foundation I've been using at the moment, is this Rimmel Stay matte sample. The shade I have is number 100, which is Ivory. This is still a lightweight foundation, in fact its described as being featherlight. It comes out really thick, but that's because this is a liquid mousse foundation. Once applied, it will blend into the skin really well, leaving skin feeling baby soft and looking flawless. Although this is lightweight on the skin, its a medium to high coverage foundation. That also keeps the face looking shine free all day. Be warned though it does seem to dry a little darker, than what was originally applied.
Concealer
I've also gone for a more higher coverage concealer. This one is by L'oreal, its there true match concealer. The shade I picked up is number 2, vanilla. This correcting concealer, is super blendable and helps to even out your skin tone, with its true match technology. This has more coverage than my normal concealer. The one I use in the summer months is more creamy. This one has more of a powdery feel to it, I suppose more of a matte finish. It's thicker, but doesn't crease up.
Eyeshadow colours can change everyday, depending on what colours your wearing or how your mood feels. In the colder months though, I do find myself picking out different colours to normal. The shades I usually go for in the Autumn are darker purples, oranges and burgundy. Obviously not all together, that would look a little scary!
Eye shadows
Changing my eye palettes up, is something I do monthly. I do this so that I actually use all the palettes I own in my collection, but this also stops me from getting stuck into a bit of an eyeshadow rut. The palette that I'm enjoying using at the moment, is the Stila In the garden palette. This one has some neutral shades that are perfect for everyday use. But it also has those darker smokey shades, that you can be a bit more adventures with. These shades blend really well, have great pigmentation and are long lasting too.
Every season, I always change up my blusher. Bright blushers in the summer, darker ones in the winter and light flushes of colour in the spring. It just seems to make sense to me that way. Plus I have a lot of blusher, so again it means I use more of my collection that way. However, this time I've change everything. My bronzer, blusher and highlighter. That's because, I'm using my NARSissist palette. Which comes with all three products.
Bronzer
The bronzer I'm using is called Laguna, its more of a light bronzer. Which I'm not so amazed by. I really like the colour of it, I think a light bronzer is all I need around this time. But I really have to work at that bronzer, to get that shade on my arm. Which is irritating, but I suppose it's worth it.
Highlighter
I love this golden highlighter so much, Its called Albatross. I'm really into golden highlighters at the moment and this one, is one of the prettiest I own. I know it doesn't look much in the pan, it just looks like your run of the mill, white frosted highlighter. Which is what I thought until I swatched it and saw the beautiful golden shimmer. Unlike the bronzer, you don't need a lot of this. It's very pigmented so don't go too over board with it, unless you want to look like a golden globe.
Blusher
This set has two blusher I like to use around this time of the year. The first one is called Enrapture, which is more of a terracotta blush and the second one is called Enthralled, which is a glittery plum colour. Both of these blusher have great pigmentation to them and blend really well.
Last but not least is my lip products. Around this time, I always change my lip products from the pinks and light nudes. To darker nudes, reds and purples. I also prefer a more matte lip in the winter rather than a shiny lip. Which can be quite hard to pull off in the colder months, unless you keep your lips very hydrated.
Lips
My go to lip product at the moment is this one by Lord & berry. It's one of their maxi matte lipstick crayons. The colour is called intimacy, which is a plum nude. These are really long lasting on the lips, there not too drying either and the colour payoff is amazing. I'll be wearing more nude and purple shades for now. But the closer we get to Christmas, the more red lipsticks will appear.
As you can see I'm one of those people who drastically changes there make-up routine. I like doing this though, it means I get to use more of the products in my collection. It also means I don't get completely stuck using the same stuff all the time, there is nothing wrong with of course. If something works for you and you really like it, then why change it. But for me, I like to change things up and explore different colour and looks.
What products have you changed up for Autumn?
