I've gone on quite a few long haul holidays now, so I've become a bit of a pro at what I should pack for these flights. Were about to travel on a long haul flight, but it will be our longest yet at just over 13hours. These are the things that I've packed into my hand luggage for the long flight ahead...
Passport and Travel documents
This had to be first, your not going to get very far without your passport or travel documents. So of course these are a carry on essential! I keep these documents safe in a seperate pouch (the neon yellow pouch) so I can find them easily at the airport.
Money
I like to make sure that I have some English currency to spend in the airport, but I also like to have some of the destinations currency in my bag too. If you need to catch a taxi to your hotel or need to tip anyone once you get to the hotel. Generally it's a good idea to already have your currency with you anyway, as your more likely to get a decent exchange rate if you had time to shop around.
Phone
It's not pictured purely because I was using it to take photo's but this is an essential for most people in daily life. I like to have it on hand to listen to my Spotify and to also have on hand after the flight to notify my mum when I land.
Charger
IPhones aren't particularly well known for their long life batteries. I like to keep a charger for my phone and IPad in my hand luggage so I can charge them while waiting for the flight. I also like to carry around a portable charger in case I can't find a socket.
Travel Pillow
For any overnight flight a travel pillow is an essential. I haven't found a travel pillow yet that I really get on with and helps me get a proper sleep. But I still bring it with me as it does help ever so slightly, with trying to get to sleep. Even half an hours sleep is better than no sleep, so it's worth bringing it with me.
Inside the very trendy food bag I have my liquid items, these are...
Hand Sanitiser
Airports and air planes aren't the most hygienic. I find that carrying a bottle of hand sanitiser is needed at all times throughout travel. You don't want to be eating or touching your face without making sure your hands are clean.
Lip balm
Planes really dehydrate your whole body. A good nourishing lip balm is needed, so you don't end up at your next destination with the most dry and cracked lips. I've brought with me The Body Shops born lippy strawberry lip balm.
Hydrating mask
Usually before I get on my flight I apply an overnight mask. Like I said planes dehydrate the body, so I want to make sure my skin stays hydrated throughout the flight. Even though I apply this before the flight, I like to keep it in my carry on so I can reapply if needed on the flight. The one I'm using on this flight is Origins drink up intensive over night mask.
Face Wipes
Before landing using a face wipe is really nice and refreshing. It cleans the face of all the plane grime and ensures you look refreshed for landing. Garnier's sensitive face wipes have made it with me on this journey.
Concealer and Mascara
I'm not one of those that packs a heap load of make-up to apply on landing. I usually fly without make-up as I'm using a hydrating mask. So I do like to pack a concealer to hide the signs of no sleep on the plane and to just make me look more fresh and awake when we land. I also find a mascara is needed for me, to make my eyes look more open and awake. I'm using Maybelline's fit me concealer and Too Faced's better than sex mascara.
In the corner of the photo you will see a grey pouch. In here I like to keep some smaller essentials so I can find them more easily, in here I have...
Hair ties/Hair Grips
Theres nothing worse than your hair getting in your way and irritating you. Being able to have the option to get it out your face is a good idea.
Headache tablets
You don't want to be stuck on a long flight without acess to some headache tablets, especially if you suffer with headaches quite a bit. Which I do.
Mirror
Needed so I can see how much of a hot mess I look.
Plasters
You just never know when you'lol need a plaster and I like to be prepared.
The rest of my esseintials are as follows...
Book/IPad/magazine
Most long haul flights have in flight entertainment. But I do enjoy watching movies at home a lot, so I do run the risk of having watched most of the films that's provided on the in flight entertainment. That's why I like to bring a book or a magazine with me in case I fancy a read. I also like to pack my IPad with pre-downloaded games that can keep me entertained.
Headphones
Usually headphones are provided for you, but I like to bring my own just in case. Plus airline ones are never comfy. I recently bought these ones by Pioneer, they easily fold up so they don't take too much room up in your bag.
Jumper/Another layer
Planes are often quite cold, I like to make sure I'm cosy especially if its a night flight. I find that its easier to attempt to get some sleep if your feeling cosy. So I always like to bring another layer like a jumper or cardigan. Sometimes I even bring a huge scarf to act like a blanket.
Socks
I like to pack some fuzzy cosy socks, to ensure my feet stay warm. There's nothing more I like doing on the plane than kicking my shoes off and pulling on some cosy socks.
Sunglasses
These can be of great use to hide tired eyes once you arrive. I like to have them on hand for flights that arrive in the day, so you don't get completely blinded by the sun once you get off the plane.
Glasses
I don't need my glasses unless I'm watching TV, so I thought I might need them for the super small plane TV.
Hair Brush
I like to have a brush in my bag, so I can brush my more than likely messy hair and make myself look presentable when we land.
Lastly we have Polo's
I hate having a bad taste in my mouth, so I always like to carry some sort of mints around with me. My choice of mints this time is sugar free Polo's.
Is there anything you take on a long haul flight that I don't have on my list?
